Winterize

I'm harvesting plump tomatoes.  Opening the gates to the coop so that the hens can roam free.

Popping outside to trim hedges, keeping my ears fine tuned to hear the buzzer of the oven.  I close my eyes and savor the summer rainstorm on the standing seam.  Dreaming of ponds and fishing.

But for all the splendor of summer

I miss winter.

  1. You have such a calm and serene way of describing life's simple joys! Thanks, and these photos of such a quiet, peaceful place is the way winter should be lived, with grace and tranquillity. Someday I too will appreciate all the splendor of winter. This time of year I'm already feeling the blues of saying good-bye to summer, even with the bounties of autumn coming soon. Mostly it's about the many miles a day I commute. Winter driving has always been my greatest fear, and bad roads spoil all of winter's joy for me. But I bet the hens are enjoying summer!

  2. I do too! I have to admit that I always seem to miss the season on the horizon so when winter is at its coldest I will be dreaming of summer.

Thanks for sharing the amazing photos!

  3. Absolutely beautiful pictures. I miss cashmere sweaters and fires in the fireplace... but first I will revel in autumn-- my favorite season.

  5. Beautiful!

Between 98 degree days we've started to have highs in the 70s pop up here and there. With the NFL starting back up I can just feel the holidays right around the corner..

    Bring it!

  10. I agree with Karen, unforunately I spend this time of year thinking about winter coming. Tank heaters, shoveling and snow blowing, bad roads, blankets on the horses, freezing waterers, etc..... fall has always been my favorite time of year, as long as I can get beyond the fact that winter follows it. I keep telling myself I need to find a winter hobby, to enjoy winter again. Of course, your photos help remind me of the beauty winter brings, I do love the sparkly snowcover...there's something magical about it!

  11. Okay, I was supposed to be doing something right about now. What was it ? I made my usual stop to see what up on Confections, nothing new tonight. Then I saw the little reminder of Fregrace and clicked. I love this world you've got going on here ! I got lost in your photos. Today in MA it rained all day & night and I asked my husband "do you think winter's on the way?" He said no, it's just a brief spell. I was actually disappointed. I miss winter too.
    Thanks for sharing Freegrace. LP
